Dobbs Ferry Partners Launch A Crepe Boutique

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. ? The journey from their native France to Dobbs Ferry has come full circle for business partners Fred Cottineau and Alex Orlowski with the opening of their crepe boutique Grenadine in the village last week.

"We didn't know what to expect because of the snow storm," Cottineau said. "But we were happy that people came in and are still coming."

Orlowski, who works in publishing, and Cottineau, an energy industry professional, call themselves "foodies." Both are devoted to creating quality fare, and are proving that simplicity is often the most appealing attribute in a restaurant.

Cottineau said the idea comes from the partners' French background. A crêperie may be a takeaway restaurant or stall serving crêpes as a form of fast food or street food, or may be a more formal sitdown restaurant or café, he said.

"Grenadine is like an open window spot you see in France, where people can see their crepes being made and have a dessert or meal," Cottineau said.

What could be simpler that the crepe? And what could be more appealing than made-to-order food created before your eyes. Grenadine offers a relaxed atmosphere as the chefs ladle batter and create the crepe with a spatula before adding fillings like ham, cheeses, meats and vegetables in savory crepes or jams, fruits, nutella and chocolate and caramel sauces in sweet crepes.

Meagan Planell worked alongside Cottineau serving a shop full of crepe lovers Thursday.

"[Diners] enjoy watching the process of making and filling the crepes," Planell said. "You can have a meal, a snack or come in for dessert after dinner. It's a nice atmosphere."

Orlowski and Cottineau have lived in the United States 15 years. The Dobbs residents will keep their other jobs.

Grenadine is located at 3 Cedar St. in Dobbs Ferry. The business will continue its initial opening hours through Saturday, Feb. 23, when it will go to regular hours. Current hours are Thursday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Regular hours will be Tuesday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
