SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Eastchester resident Gerry Radano is offering residents a new way to train their brains by using a holistic method known as neurofeedback at her clinic at 14 Harwood Court in Scarsdale .

Neurofeedback is a holistic, alternative modality that is drug-free, painless and non-invasive. It treats many neurophysical conditions and can improve focus, memory, planning, learning, organizing and emotional tone, according to the website About Neuro Feedback .

Sessions typically take approximately 30 minutes. It is recommended that patients take one or two weekly sessions for several months to ensure that gains are secure, according to the website.

“Neurofeedback has been around for more than 50 years,” Radano said. “However, it is not yet taught in most medical schools or psychology graduate programs. Many professionals are therefore unaware of this technique.”

Radano has been a social worker in Westchester County for nearly a decade and has been a certified neurofeedback clinician for three years. She has hosted dozens of presentations on the subject around the country since 2007.

There are approximately 3,000 certified neurofeedback clinicians in the country, with a higher concentration in cities. Most neurofeedback sessions are as expensive as $150, but Radano said that she typically charges no more than $100 per session to make them more accessible to a greater number of people.

“It is a method that is increasingly being used by professionals in their practice to improve functioning of the brain,” she said. “The Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, the Olympics and United States Government [utilize it], to name a few.”
