Renowned for their “Pig Wings” – a play on traditional chicken wings - co-owners Andrew Cafaro and Domenic Gaglianese have taken New Rochelle by storm. They offer a refined menu, array of drink specials and a nearly a dozen televisions that are constantly rotating with sports programming.
Although they opened their doors in June, Tailgate Sports Bar & Restaurant officially was welcomed to the community by the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce at their grand opening on Thursday afternoon.
“This is a dream we’ve had for several years, and when the opportunity arose, we decided to take a chance and build up the business,” Cafaro said. “So far, things have been going well and we’ve been getting a favorable response.”
Gaglianese said his partner gave him a final push to make his dream a reality.
“I dreamed about this a few years ago, and (Cafaro) was the final push to really get the ball rolling,” he said.
New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bob Marrone, who already has reserved a prime seat at the bar for next year’s NHL playoffs, noted the restaurant opening marks the continuation of a trend of new businesses opening in New Rochelle.
“What we’re seeing is that in three areas, on Huguenot Street near Mamaroneck, on Main Street and on North Avenue, is more and more businesses opening up,” he said. “It’s been slow, steady progress.”
New Rochelle’s newest sports bar is open daily for lunch and dinner. According to Iona College alum Cafaro, in honor of Derek Jeter’s final year in pinstripes, there's $2 off drinks and appetizers during happy hour.
“We’re happy to become a staple in New Rochelle. It really is a dream,” he said. “We welcome everyone to come on down to watch some pigskin and eat some pig wings.”
