U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano were joined by several local and business officials at iPark Hudson to unveil the space that will soon be the corproparte manufacturing home of alpha-En, an “innovative clean technology company focused on enabling next generation battery technologies by developing and bringing to market pure, state-of-the-art materials produced in an environmentally sustainable manner.”

According to Gillibrand, she hoped that by showcasing alpha-En to the public, she could raise public awareness and support for the “Made in America Manufacturing Act,” legislation that brings together the resources of multiple federal agencies to drive and attract local business. She estimated that the act may lead to millions in funding for Yonkers, though it is set to expire at year’s end without more public support.

“This is all about attracting not only companies of the past, but about attracting the companies of tomorrow,” she said. “People outside of Yonkers may not see it as the high-tech hub of innovative businesses that it is. That surprises a lot of people.

“Soon, Yonkers will be the model for businesses all over the country. This shows that Yonkers is a place to build manufacturing plants”

Jerry Feldman, the Executive Chairman of alpha-En said that his company has invented a process that allows then to churn out pure lithium, which has led to them creating a “lithium air” battery, which is exponentially more viable than the standard “lithium ion” battery that has the potential to “change the world.” He also vowed to make the Yonkers manufacturing plant “one of the most modern labs money can buy.”

“Our process is greener and cheaper, and the lithium metal it generates is ultra pure. To achieve this, we had to invent a whole new process that will be the standard in five to 10 years,” he said. “This is going to be the future of energy not just at this company but in the world. This is a game changer, and it’s going to be a world changer.”

Citing many of the large corporations that call Yonkers home, Mayor Mike Spano expressed excitement about the latest business venture making its way to his city.

“We want people to see that this is a place where you can live, a place where you can work and a place where you can play,” he said. “Yonkers is open for businesses.”
