Auditions Scheduled For Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s Festival Orchestra

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Auditions for the 2016-17 season of Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s Festival Orchestra will be held in May.

The audition will be at the school, 25 School Lane. in Scarsdale, on Tuesday, May 3, from 5:15-to 10 p.m.; Wednesday, May 4, from 7:30 to 10 p.m.; and Wednesday, May 18, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. 

The Festival Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra reserved for high school students at the highest level of technical ability and musical artistry. 

Lauded as one of the finest high school orchestras in the United States by the New York State Council on the Arts, the Festival Orchestra is open to students in grades nine to 12 by audition only. 

Under the direction of Jun Nakabayashi, the Festival Orchestra presents five concerts each year, of which two are performed with guest artists of international stature. 

Its annual Finale Concert, held at the Recital Hall at the Purchase Theatres, will take place this year on Saturday, June 11, at 8 p.m. with Amit Peled, one of today’s most electrifying cellists, performing Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme.” The program will also include Carl Nielson’s rarely heard “Helios Overture” and Sibelius’ “Symphony No. 2 in D Major.”
