Caramoor Presents American Cellist Alisa Weilerstein

KATONAH, N.Y. --  Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts presents internationally renowned American cellist and recipient of a MacArthur genius grant Alisa Weilerstein, as Caramoor's first-ever Artist-in-Residence.

Pablo Heras-Casado explains what makes Alisa Weilerstein an exciting musician. They perform together at Caramoor with the Orchestra of St. Luke's on August 3, 2014 for the Festival Finale featuring Weilerstein's performance of Elgar's Cello Concerto

Weilerstein continues a long, fruitful relationship with Caramoor that began when she first participated in the Rising Stars program at age 17.

Weilerstein will kick-off her residency on Thursday, July 31 at 6 p.m., in the Spanish Courtyard with an unaccompanied recital featuring four pieces – Britten’s "Tema Sacher," Golijov’s "Omaramor," Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3 and Zoltán Kodály’s Sonata for Solo Cello.

On Friday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m., Weilerstein will be joined by the Ariel Quartet in the Spanish Courtyard for an evening of chamber music.

The Ariel Quartet has quickly earned a glowing international reputation, winning a number of international prizes since their 2008-09 tenure as Caramoor’s Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence.

Weilerstein will also join together for a performance with Orchestra of St. Luke’s led by conductor, Pablo Heras-Casado to end the summer festival on Sunday, Aug. 3.
