SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Dogs are coming to Scarsdale on Saturday, April 9, in two programs, one for entire family and the other to assist children with reading.
At Meet and Greet a Dog, at 3 p.m., dog lovers of all ages will have a chance to pet and play with pooches from the Good Dog Foundation. At the same time, the Good Dog Foundation, will provide certified, registered therapy dogs, who will lend their ears to young readers who want to practice reading out loud in “Wag Your Tale.”
Children who are tentative about their reading skills can gain confidence by reading – not to an adult, who may be over-prone to correct, but to an uncritical canine companion. Registration for this program is required on the library website .
Chi-Chi Bestmann brings her viola and violin for pre-school children in another performance of Petite Concerts on Tuesday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. Later in the day at 4 p.m., the weekly Storytime will feature stories and rhymes designed specifically for ages 3.5 to five.
On Thursday, April 7, the weekly Mother Goose for Walkers Up to Age Two will be held at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. This language enrichment program uses rhymes, songs and stories to stimulate listening, learning, speaking and reading skills. Mother Goose for Walkers is limited to the first 20 appropriately aged children.
At 4 p.m., also on Thursday, April 7, children ages 3½ to 7, are invited to Drop-in-Crafts. Also, at 4 p.m., Needlemania!, a crochet club for children in grades three and up will meet. Children have an opportunity to learn the basics or show off their existing skills while meeting new friends. Registration is required at the library website.
