EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Eastchester and Scarsdale residents will soon have a different way to give back to charity that doesn’t involve opening up a wallet or breaking the bank.

Tuesday, Aug. 7, is “donate your hair day.” Residents can give locks of their hair to any charity of their choosing to help critically ill people across the country. The program, “Cuts for a Cause,” is different from other hair donation charities because it allows donors to pick their recipient.

RecycledWig.org, an Eastchester organization that is the leading Internet supplier of hair tools, products and supplies, sponsors the event. They will be at the Salon on Post Road in Scarsdale on Aug. 7.

Wigs for Kids requires a minimum of 12 inches of hair, which cannot be colored or treated. This is longer than Locks of Love, which requires 10 inches, and Beautiful Lengths, which takes as little as eight inches of hair.

Currently, the Salon is the only local shop participating in the program, which provides true hair to help cancer victims and survivors in the fight.

If you want to sign you salon up for the Cuts for a Cause program, call Mark Young at RecycledWig.com at (914) 713-3245.
