First, at 2 p.m., flutist Paula Robison will give instruction to flute students at the music school. At 5 p.m. at the Greenville Community Church, faculty bassoonist Janet Grice will play a recital with guest artists Sarah Bednaricik on clarinet, flutist Kevin Willois and fellow faculty member Helene Jeanney on piano.

The Master Class coaching series is hosted by distinguished guests artists and has been a part of the school’s curriculum since its founding in 1944. This will be Robison’s second Master Class at Hoff-Barthelson.

Robison was the first American to earn first place at the Geneva Competition in 1966, and she continues her solo career today. She is a founding member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and she has written books on the art of playing the flute.

Later in the day, the faculty concert will focus on contemporary Brazilian music and will include two pieces by Paquito D’Rivera, “Cenas Infantis” by Joan Guilherme Ripper and traditional Latin songs arranged by Jean Kleeb.

Grice has performed internationally with several artists, ensembles and orchestras. She plays in the Chappaqua Orchestra and freelances around the state. She has recorded nearly a dozen CDs and pioneered the bassoon in jazz, focusing her musical interests on Brazilian styles. In 2009, she received a Surdna Foundation Artist Teacher grant in Brazil and in 2008 was the recipient of a Westchester Arts Council Grant to compose “Hudson Views.”

The public is invited to the Master Class free of charge. Tickets to the concert cost $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors and free for students. For more information about these events and to reserve a seat, call 914-723-1169 or e-mail hb@hbms.org.
