David Marcus, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of a book called "Acceptance," and Gwyeth Smith Jr., the subject of the book, will share their “Seven Secrets of Getting into College.”

They’ve spoken around the country, giving practical advice for students ranging from valedictorians to those who struggle in classrooms.

Marcus grew up in Hartsdale and has appeared on "The Today Show" and National Public Radio. Smith, known as the “admissions guru,” was the director of college counseling for Rye Neck and other school districts. The event is open to students in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, and their parents.

Marcus and Smith offer a \candid, insiders’ look at trends in college admissions and information:

  • Selecting classes
  • Choosing colleges
  • Working as a team with your guidance counselor
  • Crafting top-quality applications
  • Seeking financial aid.

"Marcus and Smitty have earned a reputation for helping students find the right fit for college," said Lisa Itzkowitz, director, JCC Academic Center. “Along the way, they encourage parents of teens not to see their kids as SAT and ACT scores and GPAs, but as creative, unpredictable, unprogrammable teenagers with surprising gifts.”

The program will last one hour and will be followed by Q&A and book signing. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and can be purchased online at www.jccmw.org/teens.

The JCC of Mid-Westchester is at 999 Wilmot Road, Scarsdale.
