Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary Principal Retires

CORTLANDT, N.Y.-- On Wednesday, Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School will pass its fifth graders off to Blue Mountain Middle School, as happens every year. This year, however, Principal Lynda Hall will also leave the school, to retire after 25 years of service to the district.

Hall started teaching at Frank G. Lindsey Elementary in 1986, and said the morning of September 11, 2001 was when she realized how profound the effect of teachers are on children. “I remember thinking,” said Hall, “what an incredible responsibility I had to the students in front of me.” She continued, “I think that whole idea of trust is very important to me,” and that the people who send their children to school in the Hendrick Hudson School District “demonstrate a lot of trust in what we’re going to do with and for their children in school.”

Joshua Cohen will take over Hall’s position as principal of Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary. He has served as an assistant principal at Gayhead Elementary School in Wappingers Central School District for two years, and was an elementary teacher himself before that.

“Josh is an exceptional individual, and we are excited he will be joining our administrative team,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daniel McCann on the Hendrick Hudson School District website.

“We went through lots of candidates for this position, I’m happy about leaving it to him,” said Hall.
