Croton Police Plan for Youth Cadet Program

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Croton Police Department is starting a cadet program that would bring young Croton residents into contact with Croton and Westchester County’s criminal justice system.

With $750 from the Village Board of Trustees, Police Chief Anthony Tramaglini intends buy uniforms for the cadets and hopes to be meeting twice a month by November. He said he is not sure yet how many uniforms he will purchase.

“Let them be a part of the community,” said Tramaglini, suggesting that the cadets could “assist us during Summerfest,” Croton’s annual June block party. The cadets would likely plan field trips to the district attorney’s office, observe how the courts system works and get an overview about police work.

This program could serve as an introduction to the criminal justice system, Tramaglini said.

Officer Cliff Gabrielsen, who helps in Pierre Van Cortlandt’s social media and anti-bullying education program, will steer the program. Interested Croton residents should contact Gabrielsen at (914) 271-5177.
