Avoid the City Rush, Stay Local for New Year's Eve

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – No need to join the New Year’s Eve rush in New York City this weekend, there is plenty to do in and around Mount Pleasant.  Here is a list of events and information for residents to use this weekend to make sure they bring in the year 2012 locally.

For dinner, Tramonto Italian restaurant in Hawthorne is offering dinner from a special limited New Year’s Eve menu on Saturday evening with live entertainment from two-piece band, Music of the Moment.  Reservations are required and can be placed by calling 914-347-8220. 

If you’re looking for beers and cocktails, there are multiple local bars in the area.  The Valhalla Crossing in Valhalla will offer dinner on the normal menu until 11 p.m. and the bar will remain open later.  For seating, reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling 914-682-4076.  In Pleasantville, bars such as Paulie’s Bar & Grill on Marble Avenue and Lucy’s Lounge on Bedford Road will be open for business into the early hours of 2012.

White Plains will be holding its annual New Year’s Eve Family Spectacular on Saturday night.  The event is free and will begin at 10:30 p.m. and will run until 12:30 a.m. It will feature an illuminated ball drop, music, and midnight fireworks.  Also, Heineken USA will sponsor the “New Year Safe Ride” program, which gives free rides for all those of legal drinking age to residential locations across Westchester until 3 a.m.  Pick up will be on the corner of East Post Road and Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. 

For a low key weekend, the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville will be open on Saturday and Sunday showing multiple films.  Take the kids to see “My Beautiful Girl Mari” at noon on Saturday where all children’s tickets are $1 or check out “The Descendants,” which stars George Clooney and has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards. 

The Stone Barns Center in Pocantico Hills will be open on Saturday, offering tours of the center at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.   Tours include an in-depth look at the farm and its winter shelters.
