Brookfield Plastic Surgeon To Pay $150,000 Fine In Federal Painkiller Case

BROOKFIELD, Conn. — Dr. Cheryl Karcher, 57, of Brookfield, has agreed to pay $150,000 in fines to resolve allegations she violated the Controlled Substances Act, U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly said Thursday.

Karcher, a plastic surgeon with Sadick Dermatology in Manhattan, was accused of writing at least 15 prescriptions for Percocet, a Schedule II Narcotic drug, outside the course of her normal medical practice. The prescriptions, which were filled at pharmacies in Connecticut, were not dispensed to the individuals whose name was on the prescriptions, Daly said.

“The improper diversion of potent pharmaceuticals risks the safety of those individuals that ultimately use these drugs,” Daly said. “This settlement sends a message to the medical community that there are real consequences for practicing medicine outside the proper course of medical practice.”
