Croton Man Charged With Pot Possession After Philipstown Stop

PHILIPSTOWN, N.Y. – A Croton-on-Hudson man who was a passenger in a car pulled over by police in Philipstown now faces drug possession charges, police said.

Efrain R. Burgos, Jr., 27, was arrested by Putnam County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday, Jan. 30, on Route 9.

The officer, police said, smelled pot and searched the vehicle, seizing a quantity of marijuana.

Burgos was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

The driver, who police did not identify, was pulled over for, they said, a traffic violation. There was no information on what charges he may face.

Burgos was arraigned before Town of Putnam Valley Justice Louis DiCarlo and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $200 cash bail.

He later posted bail and was released, police said.

Burgos is scheduled to appear in Town of Philipstown Justice Court on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
