The incident took place around 2:21 a.m., Saturday, June 6, when state police received information regarding a stolen 2006 GMC Envoy from New York City, which was spotted on I-84 in Orange County.

Trooper Steven Nevel said as troopers located the vehicle, it exited I-84 and proceeded east on Route 17M. Troopers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop.

The vehicle continued to travel east and entered Route 17 at Exit 123 while traveling at speeds over 90 mph and driving recklessly before exiting onto I-87, Nevel said.

When the vehicle entered I-87 in the town of Tuxedo, troopers deployed spiked strips deflating both front tires.

The vehicle continued to travel on I-87 south striking two state police vehicles before coming to a stop in Tuxedo, Nevel said.

All three occupants were taken into custody.

The driver, Hyman Goldstein, 48, of New York City, was issued 27 citations and charged with:

  • Criminal possession of stolen property
  • Criminal mischief
  • Unlawful fleeing police
  • Obstruction of governmental administration

The passengers, Jessey Wright, 36 of the Bronx, and Justin Paneto, 27, of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, were both charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

All three were arraigned in the Town of Tuxedo Court with a return date to be determined later.
