Qabel Najeeb, 29, of Worcester, who investigators said was behind the wheel of that car, is charged with one count of rape and was being held on a $10,000 bail, the Suffolk County District Attorney said.

The 32-year-old woman called Boston police and said she'd ordered a ride home from a Boston nightclub a little before 5 a.m., but the ride was canceled, authorities said. The woman did not realize this, and she got into Najeeb's car by mistake.

Investigators said he drove her past Boston Common, pulled among some buildings near Storrow Drive, and assaulted her. Najeeb then dropped her off on Border Street and left, police said.

Officers used surveillance videos to find a blue Toyota Corolla where the woman said she was raped. The car linked investigators to Najeeb, officials said. Police arrested him on Sunday, the prosecutor said.

“This is a terrifying incident involving a woman who entered a vehicle with the full understanding that she was going to be delivered home in safety and a driver who took advantage of the victim and the situation," said Suffolk Count District Attorney Kevin Hayden. "This is the beginning of the process of seeking justice, and we will stay beside this victim during and after this difficult time."
