The JLCW will be hosting tours of the historic grounds with guides in Colonial-era garb to put residents in the holiday mood. In the spirit of the holiday season, the cottage will be adorned with its finest decorations, and there will be food and festive entertainment.

Each winter, the JLCW – which comprises female volunteers from Eastchester, Greenburgh, Scarsdale and White Plains – hosts a cheerful celebration in December to kick off the holidays in the village.

Wayside Cottage, the organization’s longtime home, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites. It has expanded from a one-room farmhouse that was built in the 1600s and has been used as an inn, tavern and post office. It became a part of the Butler Family’s country estate in 1853, and, in 1919, it was deeded to the village of Scarsdale to preserve the cottage for civic use.

This year’s open house will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. In addition to the refreshments and entertainment, there will be a toy drive to support local charities.
