SCARSDALE, N.Y. – While students and teachers in Scarsdale enjoy a week off beginning Monday, the Recreation Department is offering several mini-camps to keep kids busy during the winter school break.

The camps will provide activities to stimulate both mind and body for village children of all ages.

Joel Katz, the freshman boys basketball coach at the high school, will conduct a three-day basketball camp. The program will focus on fundamental skills such as passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive positioning. There will be scrimmages each day for both boys and girls in grades two through eight.

The camp will run from Feb. 19 through Feb 21 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the high school gym. The fee is $75 for the three days.

Mad Science will host a mini-camp of its own, where children can step into the shoes of a detective and use science to gather and analyze evidence. The camp will feature take-home projects, hands-on experiments and games.

There will be a pair of multi-sports camps for kids. The Scarsdale Recreation Department and Backyard Sports will hold two, four-day mini-camps during the break for children ages 3 through 5 and older athletes.

The Weinberg Nature Center will run a “Winter Detectives” camp during the week from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will work to solve cases using science and deduction.

For further information, or to register for any of the camps, visit the Scarsdale Recreation Department website .
