Norwalk Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Charge

A 36-year-old Norwalk man arrested a year ago with more than 700 OxyContin pills and more than $100,000 in cash pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New Haven to one count of possession with intent to distribute OxyContin.

Domenico "Dominick" Sandalo, of Mohackemo Drive, had been under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Norwalk Police Department from October 2009 until his arrest Jan. 27, 2010, said Tom Carson, a spokesman for U.S. attorney in Connecticut. Undercover officers conducted several purchases of OxyContin pills from Sandalo for $40 to $45 per pill.

When Sandalo was arrested, officers found 731 OxyContin pills, 683 Percocet pills, 190 hydrocodone pills, about 6 kilograms of marijuana in vacuum-sealed packages, and $103,028 in cash in his residence.

David Fein, U.S. attorney in Connecticut, said Sandalo pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Mark R. Kravitz, who scheduled sentencing for April 21. Sandalo faces a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of up to $1 million. Sandalo also has agreed to forfeit the cash seized during the search as well as a 2006 Mercedes CLS500 automobile, Carson said.
