To assist residents in making positive and significant changes in the new year, the library has enlisted the help of Scarsdale psychologist Caren Baruch-Feldman to host the interactive workshops designed to give participants strategies they can incorporate into their everyday lives.

Session one of the discussion will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25. Baruch-Feldman will begin by reviewing the latest research surrounding the struggle to make resolutions that one can keep.

“In an effort to provide solution to these common problems that affect so many of our patrons, the Scarsdale Library is looking forward to hosting the discussions and seeing the ongoing positive impact they are sure to have on the people we interact with most often,” Elizabeth Bermel, director of the library, said.

Those interested in attending are encouraged by the psychologist to read at least one of three books that will be reviewed during the discussion: Charles Duhigg’s “The Power of Habit,” “The Willpower Instinct: How Self-Control Works, Why it Matters and What You Can Do To Get More of It,” by Kelly McGonigal or “Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength” by Roy F. Baumeister.

Anyone interested in attending the discussions can register call the Reference Desk at (914) 711-1300 ext. 2. The second session will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1, and will address how to maintain willpower and lose weight.
