The event, co-hosted by Pace University’s College of Health Professions, Dyson College of Arts and Sciences and Office of Government and Community Relations -- along with the Westchester County Department of Health -- was an informational session for members of the university and surrounding Westchester County communities in preparation for the next State Exchange Open Enrollment period, which begins Nov. 15.

Speakers included students from the Lienhard School of Nursing: Coleen Francis-Jimenez, FNP, RN, Fatema Sadeque-Iqbal, FNP, RN, and Precillia Fairman, FNP-BC, RN, who provided an overview of the Affordable Care Act, including its history, goals, and benefits, and available community resources.

The Westchester County Department of Health’s Leoni Parker, MPA, spoke about how the marketplace works and choices in signing up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.  Her colleague, Hipolita Cabreira, also from the Westchester County Department of Health, handed out information and answered questions.

Andrea Sonenberg, PhD, WHNP, CNM-BC and Hillary Knepper, PhD, organized the event in conjunction with CHP’s Center to Advance Leadership, Partnerships, and Scholarship.

“All the attendees showed a high level of interest and had insightful questions," Sonenberg said. "Leoni Parker gave an informative presentation, clarifying many of the attendees’ misconceptions. The event was a success, which we hope to bring to other venues around the county.”
