SCARSDALE, N.Y. – To Bee, or not to Bee, that is the question facing Scarsdale teenagers as they decide whether to enter the Friends of the Scarsdale Library’s third annual Adult and Teen Spelling Bee.

The Spelling Bee won’t be held until 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the high school auditorium, but the deadline to enter is Dec. 31. Participants must be of high school age or older and will compete in teams of up to three people with an entrance fee of $150 per team.

The first two rounds, one written and one oral, will whittle the field down to the finalists.

Outside of the spelling competition, there will be trivia games, music and a silent auction for the audience. Emcee Ed Coleman, the radio voice of the New York Mets, will keep the crowd’s blood flowing in between rounds and there will be friends and neighbors cheering their teams on.

The Spelling Bee is a major fundraising event for the library. In its first two years, the money raised through the event was used to make various technology upgrades to the community room and to plan enhancements for the children’s room.

Only 20 teams will be accepted. Application forms are available at the library or at the Scarsdale Library website . There are sponsorship opportunities available. If interested, contact Spelling Bee Co-chair Sara Werder at (914) 472-6264 or
