SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Chase Park will soon be abuzz with colors and works of art as the Scarsdale Art Association (SSA) prepares to host its annual outdoor show, featuring some of the top local artists in the county.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend of Sept. 8, more than 40 local and county artists will have their finest watercolors, oils, acrylics, graphic art, photos and sculptures on display for the public’s visual consumption.
In a statement, Gina Thorne, president of the SAA, said that this show affords residents the opportunity to get certain insights that might not be possible during an indoor show.
“The advantage of this outdoor setting is that shoppers may meander through the exhibit, and can discuss a work of art directly with the artist,” she said. “It is an opportunity to shop for a unique gift, or for a special work of art to brighten up a room.”
The 58th annual outdoor art show is being chaired by professional artist and “art-marketing-maven” Miriam Schulman. The event will feature fun and events for all ages, including coloring book activities, face painting and balloons for children. Local artist Nancy Abbe donated a painting that will be raffled to one lucky art-lover.
Paintings that will be for sale cover a wide range of subjects, including imaginative paintings, landscapes, cityscapes, still life and fantasy. All 42 artists will be on hand to explain the works, and to answer any questions the public might have about a particular piece.
The rain date for the event is the weekend of Sept. 30.
“Fun notwithstanding, we are serious about selling our art, and a strong showing of artist-participation in this park event,” Thorne said. “Let’s Westchester County, and everyone else, know about the talent and skill in Scarsdale Art, which, hopefully will translate into solid sales for each of us.”
