Scarsdale Concours d'Elegance Returns

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Downtown Scarsdale was taken over by gear heads on Sunday as car enthusiasts brought classic and modern cars of all shapes, sizes, colors and makes to the ninth annual Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance .

The streets were filled with some of the finest and most valuable cars on the planet, as residents of all ages admired and inspected the vehicles. There were both classic and modern American and European makes, from a sleek 2011 Lamborghini to a vintage 1923 Rolls Royce.

Each make had its own section, including Corvettes, Ferraris, Porsches, Cadillacs, Bentleys and Mercedes, among others. Judges mulled through the different areas, critiquing certain things and commending others on the cars, as they made their decisions on more than 30 awards that will be handed out.

Sprinkled around the show on the street corners were especially unique cars. There was a racecar that dates back to 1912, a concept car and a yellow submarine-like vehicle on a trailer. Children looked at the cars with wide eyes while their parents discussed the specific of the vehicles with owners. The sounds of engines revving reverberated through the streets while the smell of exhaust was covered only by the scent of barbecue outside Lange’s Deli.

Volunteers were accepting donations throughout the day that will benefit Scarsdale municipalities, including the police department and local hospital. In the past six years, the Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance has raised more than $220,000.
