SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The new adult book club at the Scarsdale Public Library, which discusses books with the theme this year of “Words Around the World,” will meet on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m., and again on Monday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.

Led by Wendy Archer, the library’s Adult Services manager, the group will discuss “Shame and the Captives” by Thomas Keneally. Based on true events, “Shame and the Captives,” by the author of “Schindler’s List,” explores a World War II prison camp in Australia, where Japanese prisoners resolve to take drastic action to wipe away their shame.

The books chosen for the series are based in Australia, Norway, Japan, Haiti, Pakistan and Canada and include mystery, crime, historical fiction, and literary fiction.

Registration is required at the library website.
