SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Children's author Clair Legrand will present her novel "The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls" at the Scarsdale Library on Oct. 28.

Legrand will discuss her novel at 7:30 p.m. at the library at 54 Olmsted Road in Scarsdale, according to a news release. The book is geared toward fifth-graders and older.

The book "focuses on 12-year-old Victoria, whose best friend Lawrence has gone missing. Not only is she confused and lonely after his disappearance, but no one in town seems to remember who he was. Prickly, persnickety Victoria is determined to find out what happened to him, and gradually her questions lead her straight to the tall, gray-brick home at the end of her street where the bright-eyed Mrs. Cavendish lives," according to the release.

"The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls" is an "elegant nightmare that appeals to imaginative children with a sense of humor," according to the release, and was named one of the New York Public Library’s 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing in 2012.

Claire Legrand is a 27-year-old Texan who lives in New Jersey and primarily writes fantasy and science fiction for kids and teens. "The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls" is her first novel, according to the release.
