University of Pennsylvania adjunct professor Michael R. Zimmerman will give a talk at 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 on the examination of mummies, drawing on his 40-plus years of experience, which have taken him to Egypt and Alaska and allowed him to amass more than 650 specimens.
On Monday, Dec. 8, Walt Johanson will give a talk titled "A Clash of Civilizations?," which focuses on the real reasons behind the 1941-45 Pacific War between American and Japanese forces. Johanson served in the Marines and Navy for 30 years, before becoming a social studies teacher and upon retirement, now concentrates on historical research projects. The talk begins at 7:30 p.m.
Yale physics professor Meg Urry presents “Black Holes and the Evolution of the Universe” on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. While the talk is free, the library asks for patrons to register in advance.
"Ilo Ilo" will be screened on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m. Made in Singapore last year, the film focuses on the effects of the 1997 Asian financial crisis on a middle-class family and the Filipino immigrant who becomes their live-in maid and nanny. The film is presented in Mandarin, Tagalog and English with English subtitles.
SCORE Westchester will present a talk titled “What is Mobile Marketing Really?” on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 6:00 p.m. Intended for both startups and established businesses, it focuses on text messaging, email marketing and the combination of mobile marketing and social media.
