Scarsdale Library's December Schedule Of Adult Programming

SCARSDALE, N.Y. — The Scarsdale Library announced its schedule of adult programs from Sunday, Dec. 7 through Wednesday, Dec. 17.

University of Pennsylvania adjunct professor Michael R. Zimmerman will give a talk at 2 p.m. on Dec. 7 on the examination of mummies, drawing on his 40-plus years of experience, which have taken him to Egypt and Alaska and allowed him to amass more than 650 specimens. 

On Monday, Dec. 8, Walt Johanson will give a talk titled "A Clash of Civilizations?," which focuses on the real reasons behind the 1941-45 Pacific War between American and Japanese forces. Johanson served in the Marines and Navy for 30 years, before becoming a social studies teacher and upon retirement, now concentrates on historical research projects. The talk begins at 7:30 p.m.

Yale physics professor Meg Urry presents “Black Holes and the Evolution of the Universe” on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. While the talk is free, the library asks for patrons to register in advance. 

"Ilo Ilo" will be screened on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m. Made in Singapore last year, the film focuses on the effects of the 1997 Asian financial crisis on a middle-class family and the Filipino immigrant who becomes their live-in maid and nanny. The film is presented in Mandarin, Tagalog and English with English subtitles. 

SCORE Westchester will present a talk titled “What is Mobile Marketing Really?” on  Thursday, Dec. 11, at 6:00 p.m. Intended for both startups and established businesses, it focuses on text messaging, email marketing and the combination of mobile marketing and social media. 

Nancy's Book Group will meet twice on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to discuss Tom Rachman's "The Rise and Fall of Great Powers." Call the circulation desk at 914-722-1300 to register.
