SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The field of 20 teams for the third annual Friends of the Scarsdale Public Library Adult and Teen Spelling Bee is set, as participants get ready to show how well they spell.

The Spelling Bee will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 in the Scarsdale High School auditorium, with proceeds from the event being used to create a business center at the library.

The business center will provide a range of office equipment that will serve the needs of many constituencies, including home-office professionals, small business owners, members of volunteer organizations, senior citizens and students.

The first two rounds of the Spelling Bee, one written and one oral, will whittle the field down to the finalists.

Outside of the spelling competition, there will be trivia games, music and a silent auction for the audience. Emcee Ed Coleman, the radio voice of the New York Mets, will keep the crowd enthusiastic in between rounds and there will be friends and neighbors cheering their teams on.

The bee is a major fund-raising event for the Friends of the Library. In the past two years, money raised during the program was used to make a series of technology upgrades to the community room and to plan enhancements for the children’s room.

There are sponsorship opportunities still available for the Spelling Bee. For those interested, contact the bee co-chair Sara Werder at 914-472-6264 or sarawerder@gmail.com
