Songs for Seeds features 45-minute classes led by a three-piece live band of teacher/musicians who encourage kids to sing, play instruments, and dance.
Each week the children experience music, instruments and language from a different culture. Magnetic art murals are created by the children during the sing-along of well-known nursery rhymes, magic tricks are used to practice numbers and counting and a wheel is spun to reinforce the names and sounds of animals.
At the end of class, the students are invited to sing with the band (karaoke style) and play the band’s instruments (guitar, keys and drums).
“When we lived in New York, I sent my two children, Teddy and Ruby, to Songs for Seeds. The kids loved the classes and so did the parents,” Dana Goodman Fisher, the woman responsible for bringing Songs for Seeds to Scarsdale said in a statement. “When we moved back to Scarsdale, I kept thinking why was there nothing like Song for Seeds in Westchester? I’m thrilled to bring this educational, sweet and fun program to my hometown. There’s simply nothing like it, anywhere.”
Morning and afternoon fall classes are open to children: newborn to 6-years of age and will be held at Scarsdale Synagogue Temples Tremont and Emanu-El. Class schedules are posted at http://scarsdale.songsforseeds.com/.
