“The success of the gardening programs at the schools is an example of Scarsdale’s commitment to sustainable living," said Library Director Elizabeth Bermel.

Garden and lawn maintenance comes to mind with the change of the season, and the programs will provide information on how to maintain a beautiful garden and yard in a healthy manner, Bermel said.

On April 29, Max Apton will teach a class called Organic Gardening at Home. The course will cover information on designing, building and maintaining a home vegetable garden. Apton is the owner of The Farmer's Garden and former manager of Stone Barns.

On May 7, Dr. Diane Lewis will present her book, "The Great Healthy Yard Project: Our Yards, Our Children, Our Responsibility," in a program addressing the health risks that come from pesticides used in home gardens and yards.

Both programs are free and open to the public. To register, go to the calendar page at scarsdalelibrary.org or call the library's Reference Desk at 914-722-1302.
