SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Scarsdale teenagers curious about a life in law enforcement will have the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look as the Center @862 opens enrollment to its Citizens Police Academy.

For one month in the spring, detectives with the Scarsdale Police Department will give middle school students a look behind the badge with a series of weekly walk-throughs, projects and discussions.

During the program, the teens will be introduced and exposed to several vital aspects of police work that are key to catching the bad guy. Those who are selected to participate will get a first-hand look at Scarsdale Police Headquarters, vehicles and the equipment that is used in the everyday operation of the department.

Outside of the walkthroughs, there will also be lessons during the four-week course. Participants will learn about the history of policing and law enforcement training. There will also be lessons on forensics, evidence collection, firearms training and a special look at S.W.A.T. and canine units.

The Citizens Police Academy will meet every Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. from April 17 to May 15 at Scarsdale Police Headquarters.

Parents interested in registering their child can contact Ellen Tiven-Moore at the Center @862 by phone 914- 722-8358 or email ellen@scarsdaleteencenter.com.
