To help raise awareness, Tina DiLeo, a Tuckahoe resident who blogs at Cheftini.com, will be holding a cooking demonstration on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Athleta Scarsdale. The event will benefit the Food Bank for Westchester and The Feed A Family Campaign.

Westchester County has a meal gap of nearly 16 million. The Food Bank is the backbone of supply and support for 300 frontline hunger-relief programs throughout Westchester – food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.

During the holiday season, we are more keenly aware of and thankful for all we have, said DiLeo. "We spend time with our families and look for ways to give back. Access to hot meals and enough food to fill our stomachs are things we give thanks for in November, but often take for granted once the turkeys are gone and Thanksgiving has passed," she said.

"For many of our neighbors, the knowledge of where their next meal will come from is unknown, and a plentiful holiday dinner is a wish, not a reality.

"We need help to fill the gap and provide holiday meals for our neighbors in need."

DiLeo, who is releasing a holiday recipe e-book, is hoping proceeds from her book ($5 at the event and online) will help in feeding 1,000 families.

Athleta is located at Vernon Hills Shopping Center, 700 Post Rd., (914) 723-0961
