MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- More than 500 people turned out to celebrate the Westchester Jewish Council 40th Anniversary “Winning Ticket” Gala at Westchester Jewish Center in Mamaroneck.
The celebration honored past Council Vice Presidents William H. Schrag and Harriet P. Schleifer, and paid tribute to the Council’s founders Rabbi Amiel Wohl, Hon. Samuel G. Fredman, Clarice Pressner and Saul Singer.
“Harriet Schleifer and Bill Schrag are both champions of what is right and good and are constantly working to make our world a better place for all people,"said Paul Warhit, president of the Westchester Jewish Council. "We are also delighted to be paying tribute to the founders of the Westchester Jewish Council who 40 years ago saw the need to link the varied Jewish communities of Westchester to speak with one voice for Westchester Jewry. We are grateful for the vision of Rabbi Wohl, Judge Fredman, Clarice Pressner and Saul Singer to create the Westchester Jewish Council which today connects over 160 Jewish organizations and 150,000 Jews in Westchester.”
Schleifer is an attorney whose focus was education law. She has served in many communal roles including serving as a vice president and board member of the Westchester Jewish Council. In addition, she has held leadership positions within AJC including serving as president of AJC Westchester/Fairfield.
The Westchester Jewish Council connects Westchester’s Jewish communities and strengthens relationships among 162 Jewish organizations and other ethnic and faith based groups, elected officials, Israel and the community at large.
