What's Happening Around Scarsdale This Weekend

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – There is no shortage of activities scheduled around Scarsdale this weekend. The Westchester Reform Temple is inviting the public to meet its new clergy members, and the JCC of Mid-Westchester is hosting a day of kindness to benefit the county. Friday, Sept. 7

Free crafts for kids: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Lakeshore Learning Store will host its weekly free day of crafts for children. Interact with many art materials in a guided project that changes each session. 969-A Central Park Ave., Scarsdale.

Music in the Square: 12 p.m. There will be live music in the center of Getty Square for shoppers at the Friday Downtown Sidewalk Sale. 13 S. Broadway, Yonkers.

Italian film: 7 p.m. Anton Evangelista, a New York City filmmaker, will screen one of his movies at the Westchester Italian Cultural Center. A question-and-answer session will follow the film. Must pre-register. $10 for members; $20 for non-members. 24 Depot Sq., Tuckahoe.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Farmers Market : 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Scarsdale Farmers Market will return to the Scarsdale Village Merchant Parking Lot.

Weekend art class: 9:45 a.m. Gymboree is hosting a free trial for children ages 3 through 5. There will be a variety of art supplies and media for participants. 450 Central Park Ave., Scarsdale.

Writing Institute Open House: 1 p.m. The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College is hosting an open house. Those present will hear about fall courses, which will be followed by free workshops and readings from the faculty. 45 Wrexham Road, Bronxville.

Free infant class: 1:35 p.m. Gymboree will host a free trial class. Classes are designed to explore senses, and support visual and auditory development in children. 450 Central Park Ave., Scarsdale.

Book sale: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friends of the Scarsdale Public Library are hosting the annual book sale. The sale will continue through Sunday, Sept. 16. There will be more than 60,000 almost new and out-of-print books. More than $45,000 was raised for the library a year ago. 54 Olmsted Road, Scarsdale.

Meet WRT new clergy team: 8 p.m. The Westchester Reform Temple invites the community to a “TED-style” forum to meet the new rabbis and cantors. 255 Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale.

Sunday, Sept. 9

Day of Chesed: 10 a.m. In honor of September 11, the JCC of Mid-Westchester invites the community to participate in a day of kindness, service and remembrance. There will be a Rosh Hashanah Holiday package program, a children’s clothing drive,  a sandwich brigade and boxed cereal collection. 999 Wilmot Road, Scarsdale.
