The National Circus, a center ring extravaganza of circus skills combined with comedy and variety routines, audience interaction and participation, will perform for the third year. The theme this year is “Every Hero Has a Story” and will include superheroes such as Spiderman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Black Widow. Tickets are required for the two sessions, and will be given out starting Friday, June 19, in the library’s Children’s Room.

The Summer Reading Game encourages children from infants through fifth grade to read, or be read to, during the summer months. Awards are given based on the number of books read or listened to. After two books, the participating children receive a sticker; after five books, they can dig into the “Treasure Chest” for a fun prize; and after 20 books, they receive a book.

As an incentive to come to the library, children will receive a raffle ticket each time they visit. Four raffle tickets will be pulled each week with winners receiving a book.

Last year, 475 children took part in the program. They read 6,684 books, about 14 books per child.

“When the children come to the library, we like to have them discuss the books they have read with a librarian or have someone read a book to them,” says Karen Zielinski, head of Youth Services. “The program has also become a family event with older children reading to their younger siblings.”

Online registration begins June 26. Click here to register.
