Avoid Paying Extra Fees At The Scarsdale Library

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Scarsdale Public Library is offering cardholders a variety of ways to track their loans to help patrons avoid paying excessive late fees.

Cardholders may check their accounts online at anytime on the Scarsdale Public Library website, simply by using their card number and a unique PIN, which is typically the last four digits of the user’s phone number. Items that are checked out, due dates and account holds are all available for viewing. Those new to the system may call the library to have their PINs reset.

The library also offers an email system to notify patrons when items become ready for pickup; the email system also provides notice when borrowed materials are nearing their due date. To request email notifications, cardholders must contact a staff member, fill out a form at the library or complete the online form on the website. Email addresses and all account information are kept private.

Most items taken out of the library can be renewed at anytime through the website, by phone through the automated system, or by calling or visiting the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk. Most materials can be renewed for one additional loan period, with the exception of items with holds.

Library Elf, a free subscription service available through the Westchester Library System, allows patrons to manage library loans and holds. Library Elf is especially helpful for families with several library users, or people with multiple library card subscriptions. This service works as a notification system to warn users before items are due for holds or become overdue.

“Technology continues to make it easier for us to keep in touch with patrons, and vice versa,” said Elizabeth Bermel, director of the library. “We’re pleased to make it as convenient as possible for cardholders to track and manage their library items and ensure materials are returned on time.”
