SCARSDALE, N.Y. – There will be thousands of lightly used book bought and sold in the village in the coming week, as the Scarsdale Public Library gears up for its most popular fundraiser of the year: the annual book sale.
For weeks, volunteers with the Friends of the Scarsdale Public Library have been busy collecting donated books and sorting them by genre, with the book sale finally set to kick off on Friday with a member’s preview from 6 to 9 p.m.
The member’s preview is open to anyone that has contributed $25 or more to the Friends of the Scarsdale Library since last year’s sale – when tens of thousands of books, DVDs and records were sold to benefit the popular establishment.
The book sale will open to the public on Saturday, with the regular sale running from Sept. 12 to Tuesday, Sept. 15. The “Half-Price Sale” begins the following day, continuing until Friday, Sept. 18. The “Blow-Out Sale” will conclude that weekend, when items can be had for pennies on the dollar.
Each year, the Friends of the Scarsdale Library spend several months collecting items, and will provide more than 60,000 books, including several best sellers, classics, biographies, fiction, parenting, cooking, art, history, self-help, religion, business and poetry, all conveniently separated by genre. The sale has become so big that it has spread from the inside of the library to the outside, with dozens of shelves, bins and tables lining the front of the location.
