Scarsdale Cantor Shares Stage With Tina Fey, Jane Fonda

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A cantor for Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale lent her expertise in Jewish rituals to Tina Fey, Jane Fonda and the cast of a new movie filming in Westchester, according to Scarsdale 10583.

In addition to teaching Fonda how to sing Hineh Ma Tov, Mia Fram Davidson is also playing a cantor in the movie, “This Is Where I Leave You.”

A cantor is the person who leads the congregation in prayer along with the rabbi.

The screenplay is an adaptation on Jonathan Tropper’s 2010 novel, which follows Judd Foxman’s family after the death of his father. His dad’s dying wish was to have the entirely dysfunctional, distant family spend one full week together following his funeral.

Fonda plays Judd’s mother and family matriarch. Davidson taught her how to sing Hineh Ma Tov for a scene that takes place during Shabbat at Kneses Tifereth Israel in Port Chester. Davidson also appears in the Shabbat scene, and the movie’s opening scene at the funeral, Scarsdale 10583 reported.
