SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Imagine five days without coffee. Or five days in the same outfit. Or five days exploring a freegan lifestyle (aka avoiding any spending whatsoever) complete with dumpster diving.
For Lucie Fink , a Scarsdale native, "five days of" is a constant in her life. It's all part of her branding on Refinery29 where she works as a social influencer doing YouTube videos, among other things. Coming up for the holidays: Five days of giving and five days of rejuvenation.
Fink said the videos, which have received over 20.5 million views on R29's YouTube channel, are a lot of fun and she's always up for a challenge, though five days without a cellphone was a bit difficult. Especially for a 24-year-old Manhattanite like herself.
Luckily, the audience is her muse. "The audience is incredibly engaged and acts as my inspiration for every episode," she said. She also takes the five-day challenge ideas for her "Try Living with Lucie" video series directly from audience comments.
"I love hearing about how my videos have influenced people all over the world; it's brought me so much joy and a real sense of purpose," she added.
Just two years after graduating from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, the social media "influencer" has 43k followers on Instagram, another 20k on Facebook, and a loyal fan base on Refinery29's YouTube channel with over 450,000 subscribers. Along with her Refinery29 brand base, she has her "Lucie Fink brand" which has helped her grow her own following.
If the Fink name sounds familiar, that's because Lucie's dad is DJ Jimmy Fink of 107.1 The Peak , a Westchester radio station based in North White Plains. And yes, she said, having him being such a prominent figure in the community helped influence her career decisions.
She began college as a pre-med neuroscience major but changed her major sophomore year to creative writing with the hopes of pursuing a career in media.
"I always loved visiting my dad at the radio station and learning the ins and outs of radio programming," she said.
"He even had me recording my own promos at a young age, so I guess I was destined to do this job from the start."
So far, so good. For those flying Delta Airlines, you can find "Try Living with Lucie," her main Refinery29 YouTube series, streamable on the in-flight entertainment.
And, she's always up for "Five Days" ideas.
Among her other talents, she's a stop-motion video artist, and on her personal Instagram account, has done partnerships with brands like SoulCycle, Avon, Oreo, General Mills and more. She even entered a video competition and won first place which got her stop-motion video featured on a billboard in Times Square.
