Candy Arts Winners on Display at Scarsdale Shop

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Imagine Candy is celebrating its first five months in business with a display of its first quarterly Candy Arts winners and a sale giving patrons 15 to 50 percent off their purchases through Saturday.

Four times a year, Imagine Candy plans to invite artists to submit an 8-by-10 painting of any type of candy or the Imagine Candy store, said co-owner Donna Halperin.

"People can submit their paintings anytime during the quarter and we will hold them for judging after the quarter ends," she said. The first quarter of 2012 ends in March with judging likely to be done in early April, she said.

The Candy Arts committee selects the 25 best pieces and the artists are awarded an Imagine Candy Gift Certificate and their artwork will be featured in-store and on the Imagine Candy website in the Candy Arts Gallery.

First round winners, from the last quarter of 2011, are Alex Brandfonbrener, Alexa Binday, Allison Hallowell, Anna Levy, Ben Spiltalny, Bridget Brody, Caitlin Barotz, Cara Blumstein, Gabriela Chiavenato, Gillian Zipursky, Irina Eakin, Julianne Ho, Katelyn Iver, Lily Spiltalny, Lydia Doherty, Maki Takeda, Matthew Brandfonbrener, Melanie Holmes, Natalie Gee, Peyton Malsch, Sara Berman, Sarah Frankenthaler, Smriti Karwa, Sophie Miller and Tamara Gee.

Artists who would like to participate can still sign up to be judged in April.
