According to officials, When school is out, children living at or below the poverty level are even more vulnerable to hunger. In an effort to combat that hunger, the Junior League and school district will host a Kraft mobile food pantry distribution next month.

The Mobile Food Pantry works in conjunction with the Food Bank for Westchester, providing groceries for families in Mount Vernon that may be in need of assistance. Through the program, participants can receive a series of different healthy food options that include fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products and meats.

The distributions will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9 in the parking lot of Benjamin Turner Middle School.

“This is an opportunity for our school district and Junior League to join forces to help eliminate hunger in the community,” Board of Education President Adriane Saunders stated. “All too often, our neighbors may not have the means to feed their family, and may not know where to turn for help.

“This is our chance to say there is help out there: ‘we are here to help you.’”
