The series features different genres of music on Tuesdays and Saturday evenings over the summer. On Saturday, several performers played their finest jazz music to honor Boone and the service he provided to the city.

Performers included Danny Mixon, a pianist who gained fame in the 1970s, internationally renowned singer-songwriter B. Morgan and the Mount Vernon Interfaith Choir.

Dillard was an important figure in the city, helping to bring the arts not only to Mount Vernon, but to New York City and around the state.

“Dillard was instrumental in putting our choir together,” Maureen Wilson, the director of the Interfaith Choir, said. “I miss him a lot.”

Mayor Ernest Davis and Westchester County Legislator Lyndon Williams led a procession of local and county officials who were present for the tribute. Each spoke, singing the praises of Boone to many members of his family who were in attendance.

During his life, Boone served for nearly three decades in the non-profit sector. He also served as a radio host, events coordinator and founded the A’vitar Foundation.

Boone’s son, who bears his namesake, spoke at the event, thanking the city for the touching tribute.

“My father cared tremendously about the arts and also cared very much about Mount Vernon,” he said. “Being here tonight for this tribute to my dad is very special to my family.”
