NPR Film Critic Peter Rainer of Eastchester Chats in Scarsdale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Film critic Peter Rainer will give a talk at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Scarsdale Library, 4 Olmsted Road, Scarsdale.

Rainer, an Eastchester resident, is the film critic for The Christian Science Monitor, the president of the National Society of Film Critics, and a regular reviewer for FilmWeek on NPR. He was a finalist in 1998 for the Pulitzer Prize in Criticism.

His new book is “Rainer on Film: Thirty Years of Film Writing in a Turbulent and Transformative Era.” 

During the talk, he will discuss his background as a critic and how he came to the profession. He will also talk about the importance of movie criticism during a difficult era for print journalism, as well as what he does on a daily basis. There will be stories and anecdotes along with a discussion of the current movie scene and recommendations.
