Rosemary McNamara, 81, Scarsdale Office Manager

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Rosemary McNamara, a former Scarsdale office manager, died April 6 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where she lived with her husband Tom for the past two years. She was 81.

She was born May 17, 1930, in Bronxville, to Iva Quirk and Patrick Short and was raised in Eastchester with her eight siblings. After attending St. Gabriel's High School in New Rochelle, McNamara trained as a medical assistant at Payne Hall Medical Center in New York City. On April 26, 1952, she married Thomas A. McNamara and, soon after, began a family.

After taking time off to raise their children, McNamara returned to work as a business office manager for Sprain Brook Manor Nursing Home in Scarsdale for more than 25 years. A world traveler and crossword enthusiast, McNamara enjoyed large family gatherings and routine Sunday dinners.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Marybeth (Colin) Ringleib, of Hawthorne; three sons, Thomas (Rosita) McNamara, of Tuckahoe, Gary (Elaine) McNamara, of Monument, Colo. and Brian (Debbie) McNamara, of Sunset Beach, N.C.; three sisters, Patricia Short, Iva Schulz and Elizabeth Jones; two brothers, Donald Short and Robert Short; seven grandchildren, two step-granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. McNamara was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and John and sister, Margaret.

The family will receive friends at Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home in Bronxville on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church.
