SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- The Scarsdale Adult School (SAS) held a series of special events in 2013 to celebrate its 75th year of enriching the community.

Last February featured a student and teacher art show. Artwork submitted by SAS instructors and their students were on display at the Scarsdale Public Library during the month.

In April, the school hosted The New York Times best-selling author George Saunders as he discussed his latest book "Tenth of December".

The school teamed up with the Scarsdale Public Library in May to present "Can You Fight Poverty with a Five-Star Hotel?", a lecture by Cheryl Strauss Einhorn, a media consultant and financial journalist.

A screening of Alfred Hitchcock's comic thriller "The Lady Vanishes" and a wine tasting followed in October.

Scarsdale resident and husband of former SAS executive director Anita Malina joined the faculty in November to lead a class on "The Boys from Syracuse," the 1938 Tony Award winner for best musical.

Finally, in December, there was a presentation about Russ & Daughters, a family store that opened in 1914 and is now on the National Register for Historic Places. The event was followed by a Brahms piano recital by SAS veteran instructor Edmund Niemann.
