SCARSDALE Gina Thorne has been elected president of the Scarsdale Art Association. Thorne succeeds Robert Proctor in that post.
Also elected were Vice President Barbara MacDonald, Membership Chairman Arthur Beach, Recording Secretary Janet Patterson, Treasurer Ed Shiffer and Newsletter Editor Rick Prokop, as well as board of directors Nancy Abbe, Marie Murray, Peter Diaferia, Debra Soloman, Robert Proctor, Elaine Kaufman, Sylvia Fox, Isabel Becker, Millie Casiano, Vivian Bergenthal and Miriam Schulman.
Thorne said she wants to involve more members in planning and carrying out activities, according to an association press release. She announced her first program, a travel journal workshop scheduled for May 20, with Barbara Shay MacDonald and Phil Wallace assisting.
"The concept of illustrated travel journals has become more and more popular as artists find themselves in inspiring locations not easily captured by the camera alone," she said. "Text and sketches developed on location often serve as inspiration for art to be created later in the studio."
Thorne's work has been exhibited throughout Westchester, winning numerous awards. Currently, she is specializing in portraiture, both people and animals. She has a background in advertising and marketing, as well as art.
