The shelter, which is a part of the Grace Church Community Center, provides transitional and emergency housing for nearly 20 homeless women. Services include individualized treatment for those who suffer from substance abuse or domestic violence.
As part of the project, members redecorated and revitalized the living room at the shelter, adding art, curtains and rugs, painting the walls and installing a TV to help entertain the women who are housed there.
The JLCW also collected items for move-in kits that were donated by local businesses and active members. The kits contain items that make it easier for residents when they transition out of the shelter and into more permanent housing. Items in the kits included basic living necessities that belong in any new home, such as silverware, dishes and cleaning products.
Emily Gallagher, the Grace Church Community Center coordinator for volunteers and community relations, praised the JLCW for their hard work during the project.
“The Junior League’s commitment to our less fortunate neighbors is truly awe-inspiring,” she said. “We are so grateful for the hard work and dedication of the JLCW. We look forward to partnering with them for many years.”
