SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Scarsdale 8-year-old Sydney Rothschild took time to bring joy to local Jewish seniors during the Day of Kindness.
Sydney helped decorate a flameless “senior-safe” Shabbat candle set during the Day of Kindness, Service and Remembrance at the Jewish Community Center of Mid-Westchester on Sunday, according to a release from the UJA-Federation of New York. The project was co-sponsored by UJA-Federation of New York’s Westchester Region and its beneficiary agency, the Bronx Jewish Community Council, which will distribute the candles as gifts to the seniors, according to the release.
Through UJA-Federation, nearly 60,000 donors pool their resources to "help people in need, inspire a passion for Jewish life and learning, and strengthen Jewish communities around the world," according to the release.
The organization works with nearly 100 network beneficiary agencies, synagogues, and other Jewish organizations to reach about 4.5 million people each year, according to the release.
