SCARSDALE, N.Y. William "Bill" Edward Penny of Scarsdale died May 24 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital of a heart attack. He was 72.
Penny was born June 11, 1939 in White Plains to Everett Joshua Penny and Helen Margaret Penny. He received a bachelor's degree from Williams College, a master's degree from Middlebury College, a Ph.D. from Stamford University and a law degree from Pace University.
An avid racket sports enthusiast, Penny was a member of the Fox Meadow Tennis Club, where he enjoyed tennis and paddle tennis throughout his life. He worked as a teacher and a principal, as well as a lawyer in the White Plains courts system.
He is survived by a son William (Ida) Penny Jr., a daughter Lisa Penn (John) Wrobel, two brothers John L. (Janet) Penny and Ralph E. (Anne) Penny and a sister Bonnie Verses.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home in Scarsdale. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Williams College.
